Muggers seriously injured a student from the main campus of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at Juja, on Wednesday, at 9pm, heightening fears over insecurity around the institution.
According to reports on social media, the student, who was in the company of two friends, was waylaid in the Gashororo area, just outside the gate of the nearby Safari Hostel.
The student, who has yet to be identified, was taken to the institution’s health facility with heavy bleeding from a cut lip.
This comes just days after the students protested against the rising insecurity around the campus.
Several students have been killed by robbers and others injured near the university since the beginning of the year. Others have had their phones and laptops snatched by thieves.
A week ago, one student lost his laptop, which had his assignments and school projects, for which he reportedly had no back-up.
Following yesterday’s incident, many alarmed students said they feared that the situation was getting out of hand.
