Justina Wamae has resigned as a member of the Roots Party led by unsuccessful presidential candidate George Wajackoyah.

In a letter sent on Thursday, 22nd September, Wamae said that her role as the presidential running mate in the Roots Party ended with William Ruto becoming the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.

“My role as Roots Party of Kenya presidential running mate lapsed with the declaration of HE President William Ruto and HE Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the 15th of August 2022 and subsequent upholding of the election by the Supreme Court of Kenya on the 5th of September 2022,” Wamae said in the letter sent to the party’s secretary-general.

“In this regard, I tender my resignation as a member of Roots Party of Kenya. Kindly accord the ORPP (Office of the Registrar of Political Parties) the requirements for my name’s prompt removal from your register.”

In a subsequent letter dated 22nd September, Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu granted Justina’s request, notifying her that her name had been removed from the Roots Party books.

“As of 22nd September 2022, Justina Wamae is not a member of any registered political party,” Ms Nderitu stated.

Wamae’s resignation comes barely a month after the Roots party kicked Wamae out as its deputy party leader and appointed Vinod Ramji as the new deputy party leader.
