Mediamax Network Limited-owned K24 TV has fired its news reporters and anchors.
In a text message sent to the affected employees on Sunday, 21st June, 2020, the employees were notified by the Human Resource Department that their positions had become redundant.
The staff are said to have been fired to create room for a new team that was unveiled on Monday, 22nd June, 2020.
The new team includes Diana Rose, Giverson Maina, Daniel Kituu, Abuller Ahmed and Nicholas Nduati, most of whom have been poached from Switch TV.
The fired anchors and reporters include Sam Njoroge, Rose Gakuo, Fred Indimuli (K24 poached him from Citizen TV in 2018), Eric Njoka, Karen Karimi, Isabella Kituri, Nancy Onyancha, Caren Kibett, Shon Osimbo, Sara Adams, Joy Kariuki, Joab Mwaura and Tony Kwalanda.
A message they received on Sunday reads: ” Hi! This is Robert from HR. I am contacting you with regard to the redundancy notice issued on 21st of May 2020. The notice period has expired. Unfortunately, your position has been affected by way of redundancy. I would like to invite you to Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa tomorrow, Monday 22, at 8:55am to discuss what this means to your employment. When you get to the hotel kindly ask for me. We thank you for your indulgence and cooperation in this matter.”
Eric Njoka took to his social media account to announce his exit from K24.
“I did my part, I played my role with poise and dignity, and I’m proud of it. My seven-year journey @K24Tv has ended, now #Anchorman is ready to take over the world. Focus onwards, look inwards. Viva,” he tweeted.
