The Board of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced the appointment of Alex Gitari as the authority’s new substantial Managing Director.
Gitari, who has been serving as MD and CEO in an acting capacity took over from former MD Johnny Andersen, a Norwegian national who resigned in 2019. The position has remained vacant for nearly two years.
Before he was appointed the Acting MD, the 57-year old served as KAA’s General Manager of Finance.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce on behalf of the KAA Board of Directors the appointment of Alex Gitari as the MD/CEO of KAA for a term of three years effective 8th July 2021,” Board Session Chairperson, Susan Kiama said in a statement.
Gitari takes over as recovery of the aviation sector begins to take momentum. He is expected to drive growth by embracing innovation that will deliver key infrastructural projects; ensuring that our flagship airport, JKIA remains positioned as the preferred hub in Africa.
He holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Nairobi, an Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School, and a Bachelors Degree of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Nairobi.
Kenya Airports Authority is the owner and operator of nine civilian airports and airstrips in Kenya. Kenya Airports Authority was established by an act of Parliament in 1992, by the ruling Kenya African National Union (KANU) government.
