Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have handed over medical supplies to support the delivery of health services at the Dhobley General Hospital in Jubaland State. The medical supplies were donated by KDF in collaboration with Bancroft Global Development and Give to the World – an American Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) working with AMISOM troops in Somalia.

At the same event the troops also handed over food items to support vulnerable families during this period when the Muslims are observing the Holy month of Ramadan.

The exercise was led by AMISOM Sector II Deputy Commander Colonel Pascal Kitiro, was also witnessed by Dhobley administration officials and representatives of various women groups.

While handing over the supplies, Colonel Kitiro said the troops made the donations as a way to ensure that the vulnerable are supported during this period of Ramadan.

‘‘Our role is not only to conduct security patrols in the area but also to help our Somali brothers and sisters who are in need of assistance. Also during this Holy month of Ramadan we engage in acts of charity and this donation is an ideal way to show compassion to the vulnerable in the society,’’ he said.

Dhobley Administrator Siyad Mohamed Hassan, thanked the Kenyan troops for the support, which he said came at the right time as many vulnerable families are struggling due to challenges brought about by Covid-19.

“We appreciate the donations because it was supplied at a time we needed it. The medical drugs will help in treating our people at Dhobley General Hospital and the food aid will support the vulnerable families,” said Mr. Hassan.

The African Union Individual Police Officers (AU-IPOs) based at the Dhobley Military Camp also made their donation of dates to their police counterparts from the Dhobley Police Station for use.
