The Kenya national rugby team, Shujaa, secured their first win in the Tokyo Olympics, a 21-7 victory against hosts Japan. The game was played at the Tokyo Stadium on Tuesday, 27th July.
Japan took the lead through a converted try by captain Mastui Chihitosh. Shujaa bounced back and scored three tries through Alvin “Buffa” Otieno, Jeffrey Oluoch, and skipper Andrew Amonde.
However, Kenya failed to make it to the quarter-finals after losing 12-5 to Ireland in their third match played on Tuesday morning.
In the first match, Shujaa lost 19-14 against the USA before going down 14-5 to African arch-rivals South Africa in the second match played on Monday, 26th July.
Shujaa finished last in Pool C on three points with South Africa, USA, and Ireland finishing in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively.
Kenya will face Ireland again for the 9th and 10th position playoff at 3:30 am (EAT) on Wednesday, 28th July.
