Kenya has received an additional 564,480 doses of the Covid-19 Moderna vaccine.
The consignment donated by the United States government through the Covax facility arrived in the country Thursday night, 18th November and is expected to boost the ongoing vaccination exercise in the country.
“The Kenya government thanks the US government for this kind gesture. The Vaccines will be distributed countrywide to boost the ongoing vaccination campaign against the Coronavirus disease in the country,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The government is determined to ensure the target of vaccinating 10 million people by the end of December is attained.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 6, 245,698 vaccines have so far been administered across the country as of 17th November.
Of these, 3,944,709 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 2,300,989.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 54.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 8.4 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
Nairobi County is on the lead with 23.8 per cent of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri County 19.8 per cent, Kiambu 14.3 per cent, Taita Taveta and Laikipia 11.5 per cent, Nyandarua 10.9 per cent and Uasin Gishu 10.1 per cent.
