Kenya Receives Additional Doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine

Kenya has received an additional 1,462,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in yet another boost for the ongoing accelerated Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The latest consignment brought the number of doses received in the country to 14,120,000.

The shipment was a donation from development partners with Denmark donating 266,400, Belgium 445,300 while 750,700 doses were received from the Netherlands.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

According to the Ministry of Health, as of 29th November 2021, a total of 7,063,927 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.

Of these, 4,354,454 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 2,709,473.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57 per cent The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 9.9 per cent.

Nairobi County is on the lead with 27.3 per cent of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri County 21.6 per cent, Kiambu 16.1 per cent, Laikipia 14 per cent, Taita Taveta 13 per cent Murang’a 12.1 per cent, Nyandarua 11.9 per cent, Uasin Gishu 11.7 per cent, Kirinyaga 11.1 per cent, Kisumu 11 per cent, Nakuru 10.7 per cent, Mombasa and Kajiado 10.6 per cent each, and Embu 10.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, Turkana and Mandera had less than two per cent of the population fully vaccinated.
