The release of Sirisia MP John Waluke and Grace Wakhungu on cash bail pending appeal against their convictions in a maize procurement scandal case has sparked reactions on social media.
Waluke was convicted of fraud in a Ksh313 million deal with the National Cereals and Produce Board.
He was set free on a Ksh10 million cash bail awaiting the determination of his appeal against his jail sentence.
Grace, a Nairobi businesswoman, has been released on Ksh20 million cash bail.
Kenyans online were, however, unhappy about the court’s decision to release the two convicts pending their appeals against their sentences in the multi-million-shilling fraud case.
One wrote: “Appeal will take 25 years. Nobody is an idiot.”
Another added: “These graft convicts must stay behind bars! Their actions have caused untold suffering. How I wish that the law did not grant them the right to appeal!.”
