Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua had challenged the State to explain the fraud that led a Nairobi court to freeze his bank accounts.

Gachagua claimed that the government machinery was harassing him due to his political stand.

Speaking to Inooro FM, the MP said his support for Deputy President William is the source of his woes.

“There is nothing serious here. They are only fighting me because I’m a firm supporter of Ruto,” he said.

The MP said that the intimidation would not drive him way from the second in command.

The Tanga Tanga lawmaker further defended his businesses, saying that he has never been involved in any wrongdoing.

Gachagua is accused of colluding with some Nyeri County government staff to illegally obtain tenders for his companies.

The court was also told that the Mathira MP has been engaging in money laundering.

“There are reasonable grounds to believe that the accounts are used as conduits of money laundering. contrary to Section 3, 4, 5, 7 and Section 16 of Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act,” lawyer Stephen Githinji told the court on behalf of Assets and Recovery Agency (ARA).

The court ordered the accounts registered under Wamunyoro Investment, Technical Supplies and Service Limited be suspended for a week.
