Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has declared support for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
His announcement comes barely five months after he was de-whipped as Kilifi ODM party’s chairman.
Kingi who is the leader of the newly formed Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party has since promised to campaign for Raila’s presidency.
He said PAA will field candidates in all the elective positions in 2022 except that of the presidency.
“PAA will not field a presidential candidate in 2022 but will back Mr Odinga,” Kingi said during a rally in Malindi over the weekend.
Kingi was among the political leaders who attended the National Azimio la Umoja convention at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, 10th December where Raila declared that he will contest for the presidential seat for the fifth time.
In a statement, Kingi said that his party believes in the unity of this country irrespective of religion, tribe and/or political affiliation.
“Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) will champion and/or support any effort being made to achieve this objective including the Azimio La Umoja initiative,” Kingi said in a statement on Friday, 10th December.
Kingi was ejected from ODM’s leadership over disloyalty to the party leader. He was replaced with Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire, in an acting capacity.
