Kitui Governor Ngilu’s programme for youth has so far rehabilitated 300, who had been loitering in different towns, with some engaging in drug abuse.

The officer in charge of Kitui Youth Skills and Enterprise Centre (Kiyosec), Purity Mutisya, revealed this to Musyi FM this morning.

The young men and women had been idlers, drug users and others brewers of traditional liquor before they were rescued.

She further stated that they were first taken through an induction period before they were later trained in the various skills.

Kiyosec makes modern quality paving blocks. Using machines, they are able to produce up to 20,000 blocks in a day.

“The rehabilitated youths have been saved from misconduct and life destructive mannerisms like begging, loitering and idling around as well as drug abuse,” she added.

Rose Maluu from Mwingi West region is one of the benefiiciaries from the programme. She told the radio station how her life has been transformed for she is now able to cater for her family needs.

“I was trained and equipped with skills to work and keep on with my life, the little pay I get helps me to cater for my family and keep on well with my life,” she revealed

His colleague Jeremiah Musyoka was greatly moved by the fact that he was able to quit drugs and start gaining something to support his family.

“Before, I stayed home idle, am greatly helped and am gaining something, no more loitering around and am able to provide for my family, every youth absorbed in this center is busy with the working machines, no use of drugs at the center,” he added
