President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) for successfully carrying out the 2019 National Census.
“I thank and commend the KNBS and everyone who participated in this entire exercise to see to it that it was successfully carried out,” President Kenyatta said at State House, Nairobi, on Monday, November 4.
KNBS Director-General Zachary Mwangi Chege presented the report to the President in an event covered live on national television. The total enumerated population was 47,564,296, with 23,548,056 being males and 24,014,716 females.
“I direct that all the ministries, agencies and departments to utilise these statistics in their planning,” the President said.
Ironically, the sparsely populated counties of northern Kenya have the largest families. According to the household analysis, the families in the north are bigger than those in Nairobi and Mombasa.
Northern Kenya faces many challenges, including insecurity and a harsh climate.
