Officers from Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana’s office and from elsewhere in the county government have led Wote Town residents in a clean-up campaign.

They appealed to traders to ensure cleanliness in their surroundings to create a conducive working environment crucial for good health.

Governor Kibwana’s Chief-of-Staff, Nzioki King’ola, told the media that the campaign was part of the performance contracting appraisal for county officials.

“The Departments of Devolution and Environment have come together to create awareness on the need for cleanliness,” he said.

Environment chief officer Mary Mbenge said:“Ensuring a clean working environment is everybody’s responsibility.”

She urged traders to dispose of garbage at a central point to ease collection by the county for proper disposal.

“If we litter everywhere, we risk our own health, as when it rains, water sweeps the dirt it to our rivers and we end up consuming contaminated water,” Mbenge said
