The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has published the list of approved Digital Credit Providers (DCPs) who had applied for a license.

All unregulated DCPs were required to apply for licenses within six months of publication pursuant to the Central Bank of Kenya regulations act by 17th September 2022, or cease to exist.

In the statement on Monday, 19th September, CBK noted that ten mobile lenders had so far been approved out of the 288 applications that had been filed since March 2022.

“So far, 10 applicants have now been licensed as DCPs, pursuant to the CBK act and the regulations,” CBK said in a statement.

CBK however said that the list might go higher as the process of reviewing further applications is ongoing.

“Other applicants are at different stages in this process, largely awaiting the submission of requisite documentation. This means that the list might go higher than 10 companies and there is a high chance that the majority of them could get rejected,” said CBK.

Applicants who are yet to be approved have been directed to provide relevant documents, to expedite the process.

“We urge these applicants to submit the pending documentation expeditiously to enable the completion of the review of their applications. All other unregulated DCPs that did not apply for licensing must cease and desist from conducting digital credit business.”

  2. Getcash Capital Limited
  3. Giando Africa Limited (Trading as Flash Credit Africa)

  5. Kweli Smart Solutions Limited
