The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) wants action taken against police officers who were captured on camera beating up a Nairobi MCA.

The County Assembly on Wednesday, July 28th, 2020 witnessed chaotic scenes when a move by a section of MCAs to serve Speaker Beatrice Elachi with a notice of her impeachment failed.

This attracted the attention of the police, who used excessive force to disperse the MCAs, who had locked themselves in City Hall.

Patricia Mutheu Musyimi, the MCA Mlango Kubwa, was one of the victims of the police brutality.

The LSK, in a letter written to Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji and Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), wants disciplinary and criminal action taken over the unlawful use of force by the police.

In the letter signed by LSK President Nelson Havi, the society says the police violated the County Assembly’s powers and privileges.
