Machakos County Assembly has been urged to pass the People With Disabilities Bill of 2016 to help improve their well-being. Wiper Party nominated MCA Justus Katumo, who is also the chairman of the People Living with Disabilities Committee in the House, made the appeal.

Speaking in Machakos Town this morning, 28th June, the MCA said this would ensure that people with special needs benefit from funds allocated by the county assembly.

He said the needy people continued to suffer even after the House provided money to support them.

“We are asking why we are approving money and it is not serving the intended purpose. The county assembly has allocated Ksh10 million twice for the disabled,” he said. “The people living with disabilities are quite vulnerable, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.” .

MCA Katumo said he had spoken to Deputy Governor Francis Maliti, who is also the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for finance, about the problems being faced by the disabled, who had confirmed the Ksh10 million allocation to enable them to start income-generating projects.
