Celebrated radio personality Maina Kageni has decided to spend Ksh213,000 on Balenciaga worn out sneakers. He has ordered two pairs of the shoes.
He revealed during a conversation with his co-host, Mwalimu King’ang’i on Classic 105.
King’ang’i was of the opinion that the tattered shoes, which are gaining popularity across the world, are not worth even a single coin.
“I heard Balenciaga is selling shoes, they picked them from the dustbin. What are they smoking?” he posed.
However, Maina had a different opinion.
“I ordered two pairs of Balenciaga sneakers that are worn out,” he said.
King’ang’i was perplexed as to how his co-host Maina Kageni could spend so much money when his children needed school tuition.
Following the unveiling of the couture brand’s new Paris sneaker on Monday, the photos of sneakers went viral, sparking mixed reactions.
Only 100 pairs of “extremely wrecked” sneakers will be sold for $1,850, according to the fashion brand.
Meanwhile, the non-limited edition and less roughed-up variants are priced between $495 and $625 on the Balenciaga website, depending on the design.
Comedian Eric OMondi also claimed that he purchased two pairs of the sneakers for a total of Ksh 213,000.
