Former Nigerian international striker Odion Ighalo netted two goals to help Manchester United cruise into the quarter-final of the FA Cup after thrashing Derby County in an entertaining match.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney tried hard to score against his former team but he was denied by the superb United goalie Sergio Romero.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Odion Ighalo’s performance following their 3-0 victory over Derby County on Thursday night at iPro Stadium.
The 30-year-old now has three goals in two starts for United, since joining the club on a six-month loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January.
“He should have had a third! Of course, when you’ve got strikers you want them to be happy and confident going into the next game and we’ve got a big game on Sunday,” Solskjaer was quoted by the club’s website.
“He’s come in here and, of course, we’ve still got a few injuries. Anthony Martial has struggled a little bit lately with some injuries so it’s great to have Odion to call upon and he’s a different type of striker. He holds it up well and he scores. For the first one tonight, the ball’s underneath him, not many strikers could dig that out.”
Solskjaer will now prepare his team for a Sunday derby clash against arch-rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford in the English Premier League fixture.
