Mugithi maestro Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, and Nairobi politician Karen Nyamu are among the most talked-about people on the internet today.
Although the two have been making the headlines for a few days, the highlight of it all was on Tuesday, 2nd March, when Samidoh admitted that he fathered Karen’s second-born.
However, he stated that the politician is just friend and not a second wife, as she had claimed.
“I have put my family and myself in a bad situation. It is true I had a friendship with Ms Karen Nyamu and it’s this involvement that led to the birth of an innocent child whom I have and will always support both emotionally and materially. I am a proud father to my children,” he said.
However, what attracted a huge debate online is the part where the singer apologised for siring a child out of wedlock.
“I now apologise to you, my fans, for setting a bad example. I take full responsibility for my mistakes, which I regret. We have had our own ups and downs but we are stronger and happy together,” the musician said.
The statement did not go down well with a majority of netizens, especially men.
They argued that there was nothing wrong with fathering a kid.
Some said it was “normal” for a man to have children with different women.
Another group said it felt “embarrassed” by the apology.
These are some the comments we have picked for you:
Maverick Aoko: “Cancel culture pushed by feminists has turned men into…who apologise for being polygamous? Where is Samidoh’s pair? Bring back masculinity or some of these women will die SINGLE. Sharing is caring! It’s a D not a kidney bwana!”
Antoh Libra: Samidoh cheated and the wife never left. Hombres, just cheat. If she leaves, she never loved you at first place.
Aleckie Ronald: “John De Mathew is probably shaking in his grave wondering why would a young king like Samidoh apologise for what is expected of him. Sad day for Mugithi.”
Ahmed Mohamed: “This Samidoh, Karen Nyamu trending topic has reminded me of something. That no Somali man has ever apologised for being polygamous. We just don’t do it.”
James Bong: “Even Ben Githae never apologised for that Tano Tena song and it was worse than cheating. Samidoh isn’t my gangster anymore.”
Underated Ninja: “To Samidoh, DON’T feel ashamed of expanding your kingdom. Men, this primal urge is what keeps our species alive. It’s not a mistake, women would rather marginalise this fact by shaming you, instead of seeking to understand why. Don’t apologise for nature’s programming.”
