Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Moussa Dembele from Lyon for an initial six-month loan deal with an option to buy the player at the end of the season.
In a statement, Atletico Madrid confirmed that the Frenchman passed his medical at the Clinica Universidad de Navarra and is now a Red and White player.
Dembele’s arrival will bolster Atletico’s attacking line after the departure of veteran forward Diego Costa last month.
“A powerful striker, Dembele has a knack for goal and is a strong finisher,” part of the club’s statement read.
“With Dembele’s arrival, we add a young yet experienced footballer who is strong both physically and as a finisher. His height also makes him a threat in the air and his speed allows him to run past the opposition’s defenders.”
Dembele, 24, joined Lyon from Celtic for £20 million in August 2018 and is under contract until June 2023. He has scored 45 goals in 108 games for the Ligue 1 leaders.
Following Dembele’s departure, Lyon went for Leicester striker Islam Slimani to replace him.
The 32-year-old Algerian International has signed an 18-month contract at Lyon.
In a statement, Lyon said that the loan deal worth 1.5 million euros has a purchase option of 33.5 million euros.
“To make up for Moussa Dembele’s departure from Atletico de Madrid, Olympique Lyonnais are pleased to announce the arrival of Algerian international striker Islam Slimani on an 18-month contract, until June 30, 2022.”
Slimani joined Leicester from Sporting Lisbon for £29 million in August 2016.
He scored 13 goals in 47 games for Leicester and spent time on loan with Newcastle, Fenerbahce and Monaco.
