Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri is staring at trouble after the Kikuyu Council of Elders said they would conduct a ritual to curse him for showing disrespect to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The council’s Eldoret branch said that the lawmaker’s actions went against the Gikuyu culture.

Recently, the vocal Nakuru County lawmaker endorsed himself as a Kikuyu elder without following the process stipulated in the traditions.

“We have seen what the MP has done and this will be punished heavily by us. We will have a ritual to have him under caution,” a Kikuyu elder said.

The elders were angry that the MP had insulted the President while wearing cultural attire, something that was considered to be a taboo.

“How do you wear such dignified attire to abuse a king? It never happens in this culture,” another elder said.

Ngunjiri has identified himself as a fierce critic of the President, declaring that he only recognises Deputy President William Ruto.

After the Sagana State Lodge meeting between President Kenyatta and Mt Kenya leaders, Ngunjiri and a group of Tanga Tanga MPs allied to DP Ruto accused the Head of State of causing divisions among them.

Warning to leaders

Kikuyu elders are now warning other politicians who have been going against the President of dire consequences if they keep on doing so.

President Kenya is probably the first kingpin in the Mt Kenya region to suffer great opposition from his people.

Some of his critics claim is he not considerate to his people and only wants to extend his leadership through the back door.

However, the elders said there are many other avenues through which such issues should be addressed instead stripping the President naked in public.
