All the four Kirinyaga County MPs, the Senator and a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) on Thursday, 27th February, boycotted a BBI validation meeting.
Governor Anne Waiguru, who convened the meeting at the Town Hall, arrived with only her deputy, Peter Ndambiri, and a handful of MCAs.
It has been reported that only four of the 33 MCAs were present.
MPs Kabinga wa Thayu (Mwea), Robert Gichimu (Gichugu), George Kariuki (Ndia), and John Munene (Kirinyaga Central) and Senator Charles Kibiru did not turn up.
However, Governor Waiguru said that representatives drawn from various categories, including farmers, traders, boda boda, youth and women’s groups attended the meeting.
She also listed the County Assembly Speaker and the Deputy Speaker as some of the attendees.
“At the Kirinyaga #BBI Town Hall meeting with DG, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, MCAs, representatives drawn from various categories, including farmers, traders, boda boda, youth, women groups. We are deliberating on various issues of importance to the Kirinyaga residents,” she tweeted.
Photos of the meeting showed empty seats on the podium, a clear indication that there was a boycott.
