MP Wants Bumps Erected on Road After Matatu Knocks Down And Kills Pedestrian

Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna has asked the Ministry of Transport to instal more speed bumps on the Mwingi-Nairobi highway. especially near all the trading centres.

He was speaking to journalists this evening, 23rd February, after coming across an accident in which a middle-aged man was knocked down and killed at Kwa Muthusi Market in the Thiitani area.

According to eye-witnesses, the man was ran over by a speeding matatu while crossing the road.

Migwani OCPD Simon Thirikwa urged pedestrians to be more careful when crossing roads at the busy trading centres.

Motorists were advised to slow down when approaching pedestrian crossing points.

Officers from Migwani Police Station took the victim’s body to Mwingi Level Four Hospital’s mortuary

Two days ago, protesting motorists called for the removal of the contractor building the Matuu-Mwingi road, accusing him of doing sub-standard work. They alleged that the road’s condition had worsened, with potholes developing in the completed sections and posing a grave threat to them and their passengers. They also said that the poor roads damaged their motor vehicles, increasing their maintenance costs.
