New Covid-19 Cases Jump to 178,078 as 796 More Test Positive

The Ministry of Health on Friday, 18th June, confirmed 796 new Covid-19 cases, with three deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally of infections to 178,078.

The new cases were detected from some 7,392 samples tested, bringing country’s cumulative tests to 1,895,028. The country’s positivity rate is at 10.8 per cent.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the cases, 746 are Kenyans while 50 are foreigners with 458 being males while 338 are females. The youngest is a two-day-old infant while the oldest is 96.

He confirmed that 328 patients have recovered from the disease, 307 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 21 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 122,346.

Sadly, three more patients have succumbed to the virus rising the number of deaths to 3,437.

There are 1,097 patients currently admitted in various health facilities across the country while another 4,842 are on Home-Based Isolation and Care.

Some 89 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 are on ventilatory support, 49 on supplemental oxygen while 14 patients on observation.

Another 114 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 109 of them being admitted in the general wards and seven patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: A total of 1,174,071 vaccines have so far administered across the country. Of these, total first dose are 993,670 while the second doses are 180,401.
