New Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo, 30, has been banned from the club’s training ground over fears of a potential coronavirus risk.
The Nigerian international travelled from China, though not from Wuhan City where the virus originated, to the United Kingdom to seal his move from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the season.
The striker, who has been working with a personal trainer at a separate location in Manchester, was instructed to train away from United’s AON Training Complex for health and safety issues.
According to the Mirror, United decided to take the precautionary decision to make Ighalo train away from the club’s Carrington base over his mandated 14-day incubation period.
The 30-year-old did not also travel with the United squad to a warm-weather training camp in Spain, which was down to concerns over border restrictions as it would have affected his re-entry into the UK from Spain.
As of 11th February 2020, some 43103 confirmed cases and 1,018 deaths had been deported globally, out of which 43,708 cases and 1,017 deaths have have been reported from China.
World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva that WHO had renamed the new coronavirus.
“We now have a name for the disease and it’s Covid-19,” he said.
