Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a knee ligament injury.
Dubravka picked up the injury during Newcastle’s 1-0 English Premier League victory over Southampton on Saturday.
The club said in a statement: “Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s Premier League victory at Southampton.
“The Slovakian international suffered an injury just before the hour-long match at St Mary’s but he decided to continue playing, winning his ninth clean sheet this season when Steve Bruce’s team won three valuable points.
“He was then assessed on Monday and has now been ruled out for at least the rest of this month.”
The 31-year-old has never missed a league game since his Premier League debut in February 2018 against Manchester United and his injury is a big blow to Newcastle United.
Steve Bruce’s side are currently 13th on the EPL table, with 35 points. The win over Southampton gave Newcastle an eight-point lead from the relegation zone with nine matches remaining before the season ends.
