Super Eagles and FC Midtjylland midfielder Frank Onyeka has signed for newly promoted English Premier League side Brentford FC.
The 23-year-old has penned a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2026.
Onyeka, who arrived in the UK on Monday, 19th July, will now undergo a period of quarantine before joining the squad for training.
Commenting on Onyeka’s arrival, Brentford FC head coach Thomas Frank said: “I am looking forward to getting Frank in the building. We think he is a strong addition to the squad, and we are looking forward to working with him. He is a very dynamic player.
“Frank plays as an eight in our system. He is very good at getting from box to box and will be valuable to us when we don’t have the ball. He has come from the Danish league. He was one of the best midfield players in that league. We think he has the potential to develop further. All the coaches here are looking forward to working with Frank and pushing him to a higher level.”
Onyeka has spent his entire professional career with FC Midtjylland, and has been a regular for the Danish Superliga team for the past four seasons.
He arrived in Denmark as an 18-year-old from FC Ebedei, a Nigerian club with links to FC Midtjylland. He progressed to the first team and made his breakthrough in the 2017/18 season.
Onyeka was part of the team that won the Superliga in the 2017/18 season. He helped the team win the title again in the 2019/20 season and the Danish Cup in 2019.
He leaves the Danish club, having made 123 appearances and scored 17 goals.
Onyeka received his first Nigeria call-up last season. He was selected for friendly matches last October and made his international debut against Algeria, his only appearance for his country to date.
