Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss Mohammed Abdalla Badi will now attend meetings of the Cabinet and its committees.

Major-General Badi took the Oath of Secrecy before President Uhuru Kenyatta and the entire Cabinet.

In a statement released in Nairobi on Thursday, State House said the President witnessed the taking and subscription to the Oath of Secrecy, a requirement of all persons who attend Cabinet meetings or participate in the conduct of its business.

According to State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, the NMS Director-General shall, henceforth, attend all meetings of Cabinet and its committees, pursuant to Executive Order No. 3 of 2020.

The Oath of Secrecy conducted by Head of the Public Service Joseph Kinyua, was a precursor to a Cabinet meeting held at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday.

Maj-General Badi assumed the leadership of NMS following a call from President Kenyatta in March 2020, a month after Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko transferred some key city county functions to the national government.

Maj-General Badi was given 100 days to streamline operations in the city, including dealing with corruption and dismantling cartels that have held the capital to ransom for years.

In the past six months, the decorated military man has held regular meetings with his team to get updates on the progress of the development projects in line with the President’s directives.

Governor Sonko transferred four key to the national government after being arraigned over Ksh357 million procurement fraud and barred from accessing his office by the Anti-Corruption Court.

The transferred functions are health services, transport and public works, utilities and ancillary services as well as planning and development.
