NTV Kiswahili prime news anchors had a light moment referring to each other as ‘My on-air hubby’ and ‘My on-air wify’. This was in recognition and appreciation of a collaborative job well done throughout the year. The two termed each other’s company as the best ever.

Salim Swaleh and Jane Ngoiri both have their roots in the coastal region and have been airing the NTV Jioni Swahili news together since Ngoiri arrived from K24 and was later joined by Swaleh, formerly of Citizen TV.

Jane, a talented journalist, reporter and radio presenter, is also known as Mama Amir. She was born to a Kikuyu father and Taita mother and raised in Nairobi.

She worked as an English news anchor at K24 before she resigned and joined NTV in a move she described as meant to grow her journalistic career.

It is evident that the two are good friends apart from being TV co-anchors.

With a heart-warming message, Jane Ngoiri, who is married to Abdillahi Hussein, started it all.

“#2019 reflections, I call him sweet banana, my on-air hubby @salimswaleh001.We clicked from day one. We have grown from being on-air co-hosts to great friends. You made my 2019 awesome. Thanks for the moments we shared.”

Salim Swaleh, former Kiswahili news host on Citizen TV, instantly replied:

“I found a partner in [email protected] Indeed, we have evolved, very energetic, smart and innovative colleague. Thank you for being such a wonderful on-air wify.’

Salim started out as a radio presenter at Sauti ya Mwananchi in 2008, and joined Citizen TV in 2016, as a news anchor and editor.

In 2009, he was an international journalist and a radio presenter. He was also an African affairs expert and an analyst at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB)
