Olunga’s Hat-Trick Takes Al Duhail to Top of Group C in Asian Champions League

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga grabbed his first hat-trick as Al Duhail SC of Qatar thrashed Esteghlal FC of Iran 4-3 in the group stage of the Asian Champions League fixture played on Wednesday evening, 21st April, at King Abdullah Sport City Stadium.

Olunga has now scored four goals in the Asian Champions League, having netted the lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli-Saudi on Sunday. He is the top scorer in the tournament with four goals.

Speaking after the match, the former Kashiwa Reysol star said that he had dedicated his goals to club fans who didn’t have a chance to celebrate with them at the stadium.

“Al Duhail is moving in the right way, and the proof of that is that today, we did not give up after we scored the first goal and we managed to get out ahead in the first half of the match, and after the equaliser scored by the Iranian team in the second half we continued to work until we achieved victory, and I dedicate my goals today to the club fans who did find the chance to be with the team and present the morale support in the stadium,” Olunga was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

Olunga has now scored a hat-trick in five countries with five different clubs in Kenya, Sweden, Spain, Japan, and Qatar.

Al Duhail tops Group C of the competition with seven points from two wins and a draw.

Meanwhile, Esteghlal FC are second on the log with six points after two wins and a defeat.

Al Duhail SC will next travel to Iran on Saturday, 24th April, for the return leg against Esteghlal FC.
