An accident involving two 14-seater matatus at Rupingazi Bridge on the Embu-Meru highway has left one passenger dead and 29 others fighting for their lives in hospital.
Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo said that three people were in critical condition, while 26 others, who also suffered serious injuries, had been admitted to the Embu Level 5 Hospital.
One of the matatus was heading to Nairobi, while other was travelling from the capital city
Galgalo urged motorists to observe traffic rules during the festive season as this is when many people travel for the holidays.
“We urge drivers to exercise caution, especially as we approach the Christmas season. We will also ensure that traffic rules are observed to the letter, ” he said.
Last month’s the National Transport and Transport Authority (NTSA) data shows that 3,112 lives have been lost in road accidents, while 10,825 have been hurt since the beginning of the year.
