Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four suspects allegedly found in possession of 100 kilogrammes of elephant tusks worth more than Ksh10 million in Murang’a County.
The suspects, Martin Mungai Nginya,58, Peter Macharia Njuguna, 32, Edward Mwambura Kamau, 55, and 43-year-old Samuel Njuguna Mwirigi were arrested with 19 pieces of the jumbo tusks on Sunday, 1st August in Kangari Township,
According to detectives, a multiagency team christened ‘Interpol Usalama7’, which has been pursuing the notorious syndicate, ambushed the suspects in two motor vehicles.
The vehicles had been parked strategically ready for the transaction.
The Special Service Unit confiscated the illicit cargo stashed in a car boot in two sacks guised as cabbages.
The suspects are in custody, with the detectives seeking to arrest poachers and dealers.
