Bomet County Assembly has this evening endorsed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020.
Contrary to the expectations of many, the MCAs unanimously passed the Bill.
Political analysts had argued that Bomet would reject the referendum Bill because a majority of the ward representatives are allied to Deputy President William Ruto.
Kanu Secretary-General Nick Salat joined the MCAs in celebrations after the Bill went through.
Baringo, another county from the Rift Valley region and where ward representatives are aligned to Dr Ruto, rejected the Bill last week.
All eyes are now on Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Nandi counties to see whether they will take the Baringo or Bomet path.
Meanwhile, Bomet joined a list of at least 15 counties that said “Yes” to the BBI today, 23rd February.
All the counties in the Mt Kenya region have voted in support of the BBI.
The Bill has already met the constitutional threshold of 24 counties, and, therefore, it will move to Parliament for debate.
