Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua already has a nickname – Riggy G – but Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has added another one.
In his recent public engagement rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, the former Prime Minister referred to the second in command as “Gachietha”.
Well, Gachietha is not a good moniker. It simply means poop.
The opposition chief described the DP in that respect while lecturing him and his boss, President William Ruto over electoral injustice.
Insisting that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) colluded with the Head of State and his number two to snatch his victory, Raila said he will stop at nothing in pursuit of demanding justice.
He called for stakeholders’ deliberations before reconstitution of the electoral body following the exit of six commissioners, three through retirement and three forced to resign. Only suspended commissioner Irene Masit is still fighting for her job in a tribunal that was formed to investigate her and former colleagues, Juliana Cherara, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya, who rejected the presidential election results after moments before Ruto was declared the winner on Monday, August 15, 2022.
“I am not doing this for Raila. Raila might not be there in 2027, but the next election cannot be conducted by officials handpicked by the President himself yet we know what he did in 2022.
“This country does not belong to Ruto. This Kenya does not belong to Gachietha,” he said.
Raila has planned similar meetings across the country, saying he only stop when the country has formulated uncompromising electoral reforms.
