Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua today, March 23, declared that ODM leader Raila Odinga was the best choice to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a function held at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, Karua and his party unanimously approved the former Prime Minister for the top seat.
“I’m here to confirm that from now onwards Narc-Kenya and I are supporting Azimio presidential candidate Rt Hon Raila Odinga,” she said.
Azimio and Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance have been salivating to bring Karua to their sides.
She explained why she prefers Raila to Ruto.
“The history of Raila’s involvement in democratisation, the clamour for the new constitution, dispensation, and the fight for social justice and fairness places Raila as the best man to take Kenya forward,” she said.
Before the Serena meeting, Raila and Karua – just the two of them – held private talks.
Hailing Karua for his decision to join Azimio, the opposition chief detailed his journey and friendship with Karua over the years.
“Before we came here, we had a one-on-one where we took the journey down the memory lane and look at where we have come from as a people and a country and where we are. There are many people I can share such kind of experience with, but she is one of them.
“We have agreed that time has come again to work together… Martha Karua wears the scars of the struggle – a proud Kenyan. We are marching on until we reach the mountain top. We must liberate Kenyans.
However, it remains unclear the position she has been offered should the former Premier win the presidency.
Raila and Karua have a rich history of fighting corruption and dictatorship as well championing multipartism.
