Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has congratulated Liverpool forward Sadio Mane for winning the 2019 African Player of the Year award.
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane was last night crowned the best player in Africa during an event Mahrez hilariously said he could not attend because he was already working for the 2020 award.
He was in the Man City team that walloped Manchester United 3-1 at Old Trafford last night .
Also missing in action at the gala ceremony in Egypt was Mane’s teammate Mo Salah.
Despite missing the big prize, 28-year-old Mahrez’s stunning free-kick against Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations was selected as the Goal of the Year.
“Congratulations to Sadio for his trophy well deserved and sorry I couldn’t come but I had to start scoring for the 2020 trophy, see you next year inch’Allah, ” Mahrez tweeted.
Mahrez scored his first career goal for Manchester City in the Carabao Cup that saw a 3-1 victory against Manchester United in his 10th appearance against the club.
