Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has dismissed claims of him supporting Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party leader Raila Odinga.
The development comes after a viral video of Wajackoyah praising the ODM party chief at a Kisumu nightclub surfaced online.
“I am here to join the battle of liberators in this country and the person who makes me stand here is none other than Raila Amollo Odinga,” Wajackoyah said in the trending video.
Wajackoyah has however refuted the claims noting that his comments had been misinterpreted.
In a statement, Roots party spokesperson and head of media Wilson Muirani (Jaymo Ule Msee) termed the notion as hopeless imagination and wishful thinking.
“We understand that various political camps have panicked over the expectations vs reality in this election and therefore have resulted in all underhand means to create a notion of winning these elections,” Jaymo said.
“Whereas our party leader addressed his supporters and accorded the other three presidential candidates some level of respect, the biased media has doctored the clip to suit and push their candidate, Raila Odinga. We would like to state categorically that we have a presidential candidate who is on the ballot and will win this election. We have not and will not endorse any other candidate.”
In several opinion polls conducted, Wajckoyah has been polled third with less than 5 per cent support whereas Raila and Ruto are the leading presidential candidates with over five per cent support.
Meanwhile, Agano party candidate David Waihiga Mwaure has been ranked fourth in several opinion polls with less than one per cent ratings.
