Kitui County Assembly is under fire as the governor and some MCAs accuse Speaker George Ndoto of delaying the approval of the appointed members of the County Public Service Board.
Speaking in her Kitui Town office, Governor Charity Ngilu claimed that Speaker Ndoto had not presented the proposed names to the County Assembly for vetting three months after he received them.
“We are still waiting up to now. How do we operate without the County Public Service Board,” she asked.
Attempts by reporters to reach Ndoto for comment failed, as he did not pick up calls.
Governor Ngilu, who was concerned about the ongoing countrywide recruitment of clinical officers to handle the Covid-19 outbreak, said it would be unfair to have the Nairobi County Public Service Board do it for Kitui County.
The speaker, she said, should summon the MCAs urgently to complete the formation of the service board or step down if he cannot discharge his duties.
She said that despite the Covid-19 outbreak, other county assemblies were meeting to solve urgent matters.
