Rwanda has banned the sale of Kenyan-made chicken-flavored indomies after the Rwanda Food and Drug Authority requested all indomie importers and suppliers to stop distributing the product.
According to Rwanda FDA, the product which is imported from Kenya is said to have high levels of aflatoxin.
This comes after Egypt banned the chicken and vegetable flavored Indomie after finding them unfit for human consumption.
Egyptian authorities last month said that 733,340 cartons of different Indomie product flavors were withdrawn from the local market after they were found to contain a “proportion of aflatoxins and pesticide residues that exceed the safe limits allowed for human consumption.”
As a result, the Consumers Federation of Kenya (Cofek) warned Kenyans against over-consuming Indomie noodles noting that the product is unfit for human consumption.
It urged supermarkets to recall the products until proper tests are done by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs).
“We advise consumers to refrain from either consuming and or purchasing any imported Indomie until necessary verification is conducted by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and other relevant agencies,” Cofek said in a statement.
Kebs is yet to issue a statement.
