Safaricom Plc has appointed its head of Investor Relations, Ilanna Darcy, as the interim Chief Finance Officer (CFO) effective from 1st July.
Darcy replaces Sateesh Kamath, who was recently promoted to Vodafone Business CFO. The CFO position at Safaricom is the second most powerful role.
Making the announcement in Nairobi on Tuesday, 30th June, Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa said that Darcy would be responsible for the overall financial planning, management and oversight of the organisation.
Dacry joined Safaricom in 2017, as the head of finance planning and investor relations. When she arrived at Safaricom, its shares were trading at Ksh18.57 ($0.18) compared to Ksh28.9 ($0.28) today.
She has experience in change management, financial control, budgeting, analysis, digitisation, generating efficiency and cost reduction.
Darcy previously worked for Digicel Group in South East Asia as the chief financial officer, in Vanuatu, and before that, as the group finance manager, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.
She has also held positions such as contract finance manager for Unilever Ireland and financial controller for Bird Eye in Ireland.
She holds a Bachelor of International Commerce with Italian from the University College Dublin and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
