Shock as Little Eritrea’s Red Sea Boys Bundles Harambee Stars Out of Cecafa tourney

The national soccer team, Harambee Stars, on Tuesday, 17th December, suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat in their semi-final match against minnows Red Sea Boys of Eritrea in a tough match at St Mary’s Stadium in Kampala.

The Stars had posted perfect results in all their preliminary matches against Tanzania, Sudan and Zanzibar.

Today, they failed to defend the regional title that they won in the last Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup at home in Machakos in 2017.

Eritrea grabbed three goals from Captain Robel Kidane, Abel Solomon Okbay, and Habte Gebremesqel and an own goal by Ulinzi Stars striker Oscar Wamalwa.

Nine minutes into the second half, Wamalwa scored a consolation goal.

Eritrea will face either hosts Uganda or Tanzania in the final on Thursday. Kenya will await the loser of that game for a contest to determine the  third and fourth place winners.
