Villagers in Muumoni area of Mwingi North in Kitui County are yet to come to terms with the death of woman at the hands of her son in a dispute over a meal.
The 25-year-old attacked his mother with a sharp panga after she failed to give him food on the evening Monday, 25th May.
The 58-year-old woman suffered deep cuts and eventually succumbed after losing too much blood.
Muumoni Police Commander Morris Gunda said young man tried to poison himself, but residents took him to Kyuso Level Four Hospital.
Gunda said that the suspect would be arraigned after he recovers.
The woman’s body was taken to Kyuso Level 4 Hospital funeral home as police launched further investigations into the fatal incident.
