Sofapaka Thrash Defending Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia 3-1

Sofapaka got their sweet revenge after thrashing defending champions Gor Mahia a 3-1 victory in a Kenyan Premier League match on Saturday, 8th February, at Narok Stadium. 

Popularly known as Batoto ba Mungu, Sofapaka took an early lead just seconds after kick-off with a brilliant header by Nigerian striker Promise Chinonso. However, Samuel Onyango equalised for Gor Mahia from a corner, making it 1-1 in the 15th minute. 

In the second half, Sofapaka controlled the match, making a number of attempts. In the 55th minute, they restored their lead again through Chinonso. Captain Elli Asieche delivered a beautiful corner that was headed in by unmarked Chinonso.

In the 84th minute, Sofapaka grabbed the third goal when the ball landed on Ikekhai Sunday’s leg and he fired a thunderbolt into the top corner from 22-yards out to make it 3-1.

This is the fourth victory for Batoto ba Mungu against the defending champions in their last 24 meetings.  

Despite the loss, Steven Pollack’s side is still at the top of the table with 44 points after playing 19 matches while Sofapaka 8th with 30.
