Nairobi County Assembly Beatrice Elachi was on Thursday, 12th December, accorded VIP treatment befitting a governor as she made her way into Nyayo National Stadium for the 56th Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Elachi arrived at the national event a few minutes to 10am in a Mercedez Benz limousine with dark-tinted windows that belongs to the city county.
The fuel-guzzler had a City Hall flag.
On arrival, her aide who was seated in the front passenger seat, came out and opened the back left door for the speaker.
Elachi, who was in the company of Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, was ushered in and guided to her seat by security personnel.
Speaker Elachi would automatically become the acting governor if Sonko is convicted.
This is because Sonko has no deputy, and Speaker Elachi is the third in line in the succession.
Sonko was on Wednesday, 11th December, released by Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti on a cash bail of Ksh15 million and ordered not to step at his City Hall office.
The Council of Governors chair, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, has written to President Uhuru Kenyatta, requesting for a meeting to address the looming crisis in the city county.
