Mathare United registered their second victory of the FKF Premier League, beating AFC Leopards 1-0 at Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi on Wednesday, 23rd June.
John Mwangi scored the only goal, minutes to half time to hand Mathare a huge victory. The Slum Boys held Ingwe in the entire match as they failed to utilise the numerous chances they created.
Mathare, who have had a tough season, registered their first win on 8th February, when they edged out Nzoia Sugar by the same scoreline.
Despite the win, United are still languishing at the bottom of the log with 11 points, four adrift from the safety zone.
With the defeat, Ingwe dropped to fourth place with 37 points, having played 20 games.
In another match played on Wednesday, defending Champions Gor Mahia were held to a barren draw by Wazito FC at Thika Sub-County Stadium.
Gor suffered a setback at the beginning when midfielder Alpha Onyango picked up an early injury, forcing the technical bench to make a substitution in the seventh minute.
With the draw, K’Ogalo, who are unbeaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions, climb to the third spot with 38 points from 20 games, while Wazito remain in the 10th position with 27 points from 19 matches.
Elsewhere, Tusker FC beat Western Stima 2-1 to reclaim the top spot in the league, thanks to Henry Meja and Boniface Muchiri’s goals.
Tusker now top the log with 44 points, two above second-placed KCB FC, who have a match in hand.
