Taming DP Ruto and His Allies

The National Assembly Administration and National Security Committee has finalised the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Amendment Bill of 2021, which seeks to criminalise the “Hustlers vs Dynasties” talk.

The proposals in the Bill state that anyone who promotes class divisions should be jailed for five years or a hefty fine of Ksh5 million.

Once the Bill is adopted, Deputy President William Ruto and his allies would be restrained from referring to themselves as “hustlers” and branding the offspring of former top politicians as “dynasties”.

Bonchari MP John Oroo Oyioka Dies

Bonchari MP John Oroo Oyioko died last evening after a long battle with illness.

The family said Oyioka breathed his last at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu where he had been admitted for some time.

In his condolence message, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi said was a dedicated leader and an active member of the House Education and Research Committee.

Yusuf Haji Interred Hours After Death

Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji was on Monday evening, 15th February, buried at the Lang’ata Muslim Cemetery after passing on earlier in the day.

President Uhuru Kenyatta thanked the late Haji for the role he played in midwifing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, where he was the task force chairperson.

Deputy President William Ruto eulogised Haji as a “devoted and indefatigable administrator who was cause-driven.”

ODM leader Raila Odinga mourned: “In the passing of Senator Yusuf Hajji, Kenya has lost a dedicated patriot and a humble servant.”

No Politics at Nyachae’s Burial

Politicians honoured the will of the late veteran politician, Simeon Nyachae‘s, family that politics should be kept away from his burial.

Led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy, William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, political figures narrated light moments they shared with Nyachae.

President Kenyatta said the former Cabinet Minister believed in hardwork and taught his children good values.

Nyachae had five wives and more than 30 children.

DP Ruto Allies Arrested Prior to Nyachae State Funeral

Three politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto and tens of their supporters were yesterday arrested moments before the State funeral of Simeon Nyachae started.

Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, and former ODM Kisii branch chairman Samuel Omwando were apprehended for allegedly plotting to disrupt the private burial.

They were later released without any charges.

Why Fish Are Dying in Lake Victoria

The Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (Kemfri) has explained that the cause of mass deaths of fish in Lake Victoria is suffocation.

Kemfri Director James Njiru said the suffocation was being caused by pollution.

However, he assured fishermen and the locals that the fish was fit was human consumption.

Family in Distress as No Word a Week After Lawyer Was Abducted

The family of Nairobi lawyer Benjamin Njau Kayai has asked detectives to speed up investigations following the kidnapping of the advocate on 7th February.

The alleged abductors have not asked for any ransom, adding that Kayai’s phone was switched off shortly after he went missing.

He was picked up by unknown people in Nairobi’s South ‘C’ as he walked to his house after buying a loaf of bread.

Government Launches Training Programmes For Boda Boda Riders

The national government has launched a national road safety programme, targeting motorcyclists.

The training programme aims at instilling discipline, national values and change of mindset.

This comes days after National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that at least 112 boda boda riders had died between January 1 and January 27.

Free Covid-19 Vaccine

Acting Director General of Health Patrick Amoth has disclosed that the Covid-19 vaccine will be offered for free at all public health facilities.

Dr Amoth said various stakeholders are meeting on regular basis to discuss how the rollout of the vaccine will be done.

The Covid-19 Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine is expected to be delivered before the end of the month.

Pastor Arraigned Over Defilement

A 70-year-old pastor from Lamu County has pleaded not guilty to charges of sodomising and defiling five children – four girls and a boy.

The police report indicated that the suspect allegedly committed the indecent acts between October and December last year.

He was accused of buying the children’s silence with food.
