Tusker FC Appoints New Assistant Coach After Okere’s Departure

FKF Premier League side Tusker FC has re-appointed George Maina as the new assistant head coach.

Maina will replace Charles Okere, who was appointed the head coach of the national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets.

Maina, who has been the head coach at National Division One outfit Naivas FC, returns to the club after seven years, having worked in the same capacity in 2013.

“Tusker is like home to me because I have been here for many years as a player and as a coach. I am glad to be back. When coach (Robert) Matano asked whether I could come work with him, I couldn’t say no. I have worked with him before. He has coached me before and he is a person I hugely respect,” Maina was quoted as saying by the Tusker FC official website.

Head Coach Matano said he was optimistic that he would lead the club to success while working with Maina.

“We have worked together for a long time and when the opportunity arose to have him back, I did not hesitate to ask him whether he could come. We continue the work and hopefully we win more trophies together.”

For his part, club chairman Daniel Aduda said: “George is a club legend, having achieved so much at Tusker both as a player and as a coach. We are pleased to have him in and better because he knows the fabric of the club and it will not be hard for him to get started. I want to wish him all the best as he starts his job and hopefully we win trophies together.”
