Two Arrested, AK47 Rifle With 128 Rounds of Ammunition Recovered

Police have arrested two men with an AK47 rifle, 128 rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades in Merti, Isiolo County.

According to a statement issued on Monday, 22nd February, by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Abdi Fatah Ibrahim and Yusuf Mohamed were apprehended on Sunday night, 21st February, when detectives patrolling the Duma-Yamicha road spotted two suspicious Toyota Probox vehicles.

A joint team of officers from DCI Merti and Yamicha Police Post flagged down the occupants, but the two vehicles sped off.

A hot pursuit ensued before two occupants in one of the cars, Reg KCY 576H, opened fire on the officers, sparking an exchange of rapid shots in self-defence.

The two suspects later surrendered after being cornered.

“A search in their car saw the recovery of the said exhibits, including five magazines and nine11 magazine pouches, a military jungle belt, two mobile phones, and several pen knives,” said the DCI.

The other vehicle managed to get away, but detectives are on the lookout for it.

Meanwhile, the arrested suspects are undergoing interrogation, with the Bomb Disposal Unit and Anti-Terrorism Police Unit involved.
