Uhuru Congratulates Kipchoge For Winning Best Male Athlete Award

President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated marathoner Eliud Kipchoge for winning the 2021 Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Award for the Best Male Athlete in the Tokyo Olympics.

In a statement published on State House social media platforms, the Head of State said that the prestigious ANOC-Award is a global recognition of Kenya’s prominence as a sporting nation.

He advised up-and-coming athletes to emulate Kipchoge’s determination, humility, hard work, and patriotism. as they build their careers.

Kipchoge received the prestigious award on Sunday evening, 20th October. at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Awards 2021 held in Greece.

The 36-year-old saw off competition from Karsten Warholm, Damian Warner, Miltiadis Tentoglou, Daniel Stahl, Pedro Pichardo, Ryan Crouser, Joshua Cheptegei, Mondo Duplantis, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen to lift the award.

He was awarded by the president of the Association of National Olympics Committee of Africa, Mustapha Berraf, at the Open Air Theatre of the Creta Maris Beach Hotel.

The ANOC Award is in recognition of Kipchoge’s exemplary performance.

In the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Kipchoge set a record by becoming the third man to win gold back-to-back the Olympic marathon. Others who have previously retained their titles include Ethiopia’s Abebe Bikila (1960 and 1964) and former East Germany’s Waldemar Cierpinski (1976 and 1980).
